How the net salary calculator works

Getting from gross to net in Cyprus is a three-step deduction. First, employee Social Insurance at 8.8% is taken on insurable earnings up to the €68,904 annual ceiling. Second, the GHS contribution of 2.65% is taken on income up to €180,000. The salary that remains is then taxable income, on which personal income tax is charged using the 2026 progressive bands. This calculator applies all three in sequence to show your take-home pay. Employer contributions sit separately on top of gross and do not affect your net.

The 2026 employee deductions

The two contribution rates were unchanged by the 2026 reform; the income tax bands are the new, wider 2026 set.

DeductionRateCap (2026)
Social Insurance (employee)8.8%€68,904 insurable
GHS (employee)2.65%€180,000 income
Income tax0–35% (bands)0% to €22,000

Worked example: €40,000 gross salary

Take an employee on €40,000 gross for the 2026 year, below both contribution ceilings.

  • Social Insurance: €40,000 × 8.8% = €3,520.
  • GHS: €40,000 × 2.65% = €1,060.
  • Taxable income: €40,000 − €3,520 − €1,060 = €35,420.
  • Income tax: €10,000 × 20% (€2,000) + €3,420 × 25% (€855) = €2,855.
  • Net pay: €40,000 − €3,520 − €1,060 − €2,855 = €32,565.

Frequently asked questions

Three things come off gross pay: employee Social Insurance at 8.8%, the General Healthcare System (GHS) contribution at 2.65%, and personal income tax on what remains. Social Insurance and GHS are deducted first, and income tax is then calculated on the reduced figure using the 2026 bands.

Yes. Employee Social Insurance is charged at 8.8% on insurable earnings up to an annual ceiling of €68,904 for 2026. Earnings above that cap carry no further Social Insurance, so very high salaries see the contribution flatten while income tax continues to apply.

Yes. The 2.65% GHS contribution applies to income up to €180,000 per year. Once total income reaches that cap, no further GHS is due. Both the Social Insurance and GHS ceilings are built into this calculator's gross-to-net computation.

No. Employers pay their own Social Insurance, GHS and other fund contributions on top of your gross salary — these do not reduce your net pay and are not shown here. This tool calculates the employee side only: gross to take-home.

After Social Insurance and GHS are deducted, the remaining taxable income is run through the 2026 income tax bands: 0% to €22,000, then 20%, 25%, 30% and 35%. The income tax produced is the final deduction before you reach net pay.

Yes. If you only need the income tax figure on a known taxable income, use our dedicated income tax calculator. This net salary tool combines income tax with Social Insurance and GHS to show full gross-to-net take-home pay.
